Scott Pilgrim: Michael Cera responds to email nine years late; understand

Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of the comic that inspired ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’, revealed that Michael Cera responded to a meme sent almost a decade ago

With the anime version set to premiere in November, the cast of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010) returned to the spotlight. Producers and actors have been getting together to talk about the film’s legacy and how the film’s principles will be mirrored in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off.

The producer Bryan Lee O’Malley told, in an interview with E.W. (via NME), about an exchange of emails between those involved in the film, which took place almost a decade ago. The issue has been raised by others, but, according to O’Malleya detail “wasn’t mentioned by anyone”: Michael Cera responded to a message sent nine years ago.

“We were exchanging emails when the film was coming out, and then that thread lay dormant for about nine years,” the producer explained. “Before this anime was even considered, Michael Cera responded to a meme someone sent, as if no time had passed. He just said, ‘Oh, that’s funny.’ Chris Evans replied saying like, ‘Michael, why the f*ck are you responding to that email from nine years ago?’ And then we all got back to talking again.”

Anime

Bryan launched the comic, which would become a film directed by Edgar Wrightin 2004. Now, the animated version puts the cast together again, with Michael Cera like Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead like Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha like Mathew Pattel, Ellen Wong like Knives Chau and Kieran Culkin like Wallace Wells. The anime is set to arrive on Netflix on November 17th.
