The journey has only just begun for Luffy and his Straw Hat crew. TV series live action One Piece, inspired by the manga by Eiichiro Oda (105 volumes, available from Glénat) has been officially renewed by Netflix for a 2nd season. The creator himself announced the good news a few minutes ago with a snail! Watch the video below:

In the imaginary world of One Piece, the pirate crew is portrayed by Monkey D. Led by Luffy, a young boy who dreams of becoming the new Pirate King. To do this, the latter will have to get hold of One Piece, the famous Gol d. Roger’s Treasure.

An adventure and action story, comedic but also tinged with more dramatic moments, One Piece is also a series full of special effects, especially for the on-screen reproduction of Luffy’s elastic powers. Netflix did not hesitate to program XXL shooting budget of $144 million!

The success of the series proves the correctness of the platform and the biggest success of this One Piece live action It would convince many skeptical fans. It must be said that the previous live-action adaptations of manga produced by the platform (namely Death Note and Cowboy Bebop) were not real successes…

While the first twelve volumes of the manga, adapted into this season 1, have been made available for free to Internet users, the second season of One Piece will in turn adapt the Alabasta saga, covering volumes 12 to 23 of the strip.

In this case, several new characters will debut in the series, starting with this mysterious character who appeared from behind in the post-credits scene of the last episode of season 1 (and whose identity is already in doubt… ).

As for the broadcast date of the series, nothing is less certain. Although eight episodes have already been written, according to the show’s producer, a “year-and-a-half wait” will be considered… once the writers’ and actors’ strike is over. And filming may resume in Hollywood…
