Did you know? The Cannes Film Festival has an unusual prize… for dogs

The Cannes Film Festival is one of the most renowned in the film industry and, every year, awards the Palme d’Or as the highest symbol of prestige. Furthermore, it is also one of the most diverse, bringing together famous and debuting directors in sessions for all tastes and styles. During the event even dogs have a chance: the Palm Dog (something like Palma Canina) is given to pets who have distinguished themselves in the films in which they participate.

At first the category was not known for its prestige, but, over time, it began to attract the attention of critics, directors and other industry professionals who attended the Cannes Film Festival. Director Quentin Tarantino is one of them.

In 2019, in fact, the filmmaker received the Palm Dog for Brandy, the pitbull played by Sayuri who played Brad Pitt’s best friend in “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”.

I’ve already told everyone that I have no idea if we will win the Palme d’Or. I do not feel well. But I felt I was in good shape to win the Palm Dog. So I want to dedicate it to my wonderful actress Brandy.
