30 years after Alex Proyas’ The Crow, The Crow is coming back to the big screen. As we recently announced, James O’Barry’s graphic novel will once again be adapted for film.
Bill Skarsgård (It, John Wick 4) will play the title role, played by Brandon Lee in 1994, and will star alongside FKA Twigs, Danny Huston, Laura Byrne, Sami Buajilla and Jordan Bolger.

Crow will be the “anti-Marvel”
“We’ve finally reached a point where we have the opportunity to explore other avenues. Crow is a unique piece of work. It’s not a studio movie, it’s not a Marvel movie — it’s even, in a way, an anti-Marvel movie.”
Brendan Lee in The Crow
Quickly rising to the status of a cult film, especially after the tragic death of Brandon Lee during filming, The Crow is a dark fantasy film with a gothic aesthetic, in which the hero seeks revenge. Alex Proyas It didn’t try to tone down the violence of the comics, and if the producer is to be believed, the new version should be faithful to the spirit of the original work.
Words that echo recent statements from The Marvels director Nina DaCosta, who confirmed that “superhero movie fatigue is real.”
Sam Pressman adds: “Rupert Sanders is a visionary (…). Crow is a central part of our production company and I’m really proud of the progress we’ve made and the work we’ve done.
I think the film will surprise people. Our partners want to approach it from 360°, whether it’s a video game, an animated series or a whole other world, but it can go beyond a single story..”

A whole new world around The Crow
Beyond just a movie, Lionsgate could create an entire universe dedicated to The Crow. In the graphic novel, Eric Draven and his fiancée are attacked and killed by a gang after the couple’s car breaks down. Eric is resurrected by the spade and seeks revenge on those who took his life and that of his loved one.
The Alex Proyas film had 3 sequels: City of Angels with Vincent Perez (1997), Salvation (2000) directed by Eric Mabius and Kirsten Dunst, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer with Edward Furlong and David Boreanaz.
James O’Barry’s graphic novel was also adapted into a television series that aired in the late 1990s and was directed by Mark Dacascos.
In the production of the film, the strike is expected to end.
