Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile, Mystery in Venice… and that’s it? After William Shakespeare, the author Kenneth Branagh was not as interested as Agatha Christie, whose actress and director turned three novels into films. And especially the one that was released on Wednesday, September 13 in our cinemas, where it is directed by, among others, Camille Cotin.
Set in the City of Doge shortly after the end of World War II, will this new investigation by Hercule Poirot (still starring Kenneth Branagh himself) be the end of the franchise that started in 2017? This is another mystery. The solution to which, unfortunately, is not on the screens.
The End of Crime on the Orient-Express announced the departure of a Belgian detective to Egypt. And we saw the cover of the novel “Pumpkin Festival” (Republished under the title “Halloween Crime” 1999) in Belfast, his autobiographical and Oscar-winning Interlude. But there is no such evidence here.
Undoubtedly, as the box office will depend on a possible sequel. Or because Hercule Poirot is withdrawn early in the story, until his friend Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey) arrives to take him on a case of charlatanism that turns into murder. which is more often called “Monday in the life of Agatha Christie’s main character”.
Kenneth Branagh empowers us
There are currently no new Kenneth Branagh movies planned. But Hercule Poirot has appeared in thirty-three novels and eight short stories, so there’s no shortage of material if a filmmaker chooses to do so.
by adaptation, why not “The Feast of Hercule Poirot”which spawned the 1982 film Murder in the Sun, one of six Peter Ustinov feature films, including Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile.
or kidnapping “Poirot leaves the stage”, which marks the death of a character, and can once and for all put Kenneth Branagh on this detective bracket of his career as an actor and director (but marked with seriousness). Better go back to Shakespeare after that?
