What is it about?

A sweet tale of revenge

What do you want to do for revenge? For Liv, the question has a simple answer: everything. Liv is a hero desertA new Prime Video original series that was recently launched on the online platform.

Based on Bee Jones’ 2017 novel of the same name, this thrilling pop thriller, written by Marnie Dickens (Thirteen) and directed by Soo Yong Kim (Dr. Death), tells the story of how a scorned wife seeks revenge. Her husband is unfaithful.

Played by Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Sandman), Liv thought she had a dream life with a luxurious apartment in New York, time to write a novel and a loving and strong husband.

But everything falls apart when she discovers that her husband Will, played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen (The Haunting of Hill House), is having an affair. At first devastated and filled with grief, Liv quickly turns into a fierce avenger and plans to make Will pay. She agrees to give their relationship another chance and travels with him to America’s national parks.

This dream trip, which was originally supposed to be their honeymoon, will take them from the Grand Canyon to Yosemite before ending with a wild weekend in Las Vegas. The problem is that the pair meet Kara, Will’s mistress, played by Ashley Benson (Pretty Little Liars, Spring Breakers), and her companion Garth, played by Eric Balfour (Six Feet Under, The Offer).

Coincidence or arrangement? Liv is so adept at lying, pretending, and controlling her emotions that it’s hard to pinpoint her motives and plans.

But that’s exactly what makes Desert special, namely the discovery of the heroine’s true intentions over the course of six episodes of the series.

If the main plot is nothing revolutionary (stories of deception and revenge are legion in fiction), it is Livy’s psyche and the many twists and turns (between twisted love stories and Machiavellian plans) during the road trip that grab our attention.

With a pop soundtrack (incl Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor Version) by Taylor Swift, who serves up music on a very polished animated theme), charming and provocative casting, paradisiacal landscapes that turn into nightmares, and a fascinating revenge story, Desert has everything to attract this kind of fantasy-loving public.

The Wilderness series is available on Prime Video.
