One Piece on Netflix: This crazy true story inspired Gol D. Roger’s character

One Piece is a monkey d. The story of Luffy, a young adventurer who always dreamed of freedom. More than 20 years after the beginning of his story, Japanese mangaka Eiichiro Oda keeps this well-kept secret alive.

On August 31st, Netflix released the first season of the live-action adaptation of One Piece online, allowing new fans to discover the rich and abundant world imagined by Oda. The artist drew inspiration from various cultures and the world of piracy to create his characters. A few of them are actually inspired by villains that actually existed, like Zoro.

The true story of Gol d. Behind Roger’s character

Eiichiro Oda paid tribute to another French pirate, La Busse, in his character Gaul d. Through Roger, who died on the scaffold at the beginning of the series. The first would be known to have left a cryptogram indicating a hidden treasure. Like One Piece. The true but lesser-known story we tell you in this bonus episode is a true story.
