The cyclist won the XCO race at the weekend, in his homeland
Widely considered the greatest mountain biker in Brazilian history, Henrique Avancini won the Taça Brasil XCO race last Sunday (17). The competition took place in his homeland, Petrópolis (RJ) and marked the beginning of Avancini’s farewell journey.
“So many years of competing and I have always taken every competition I have entered in Brazil very seriously, even after winning major titles and world-class events. Racing at home for the last time was perhaps the only time that racing well or getting a great result was secondary. What I wanted most was to share this moment with the people of my city. It was a special day,” celebrated Henrique Avancini.
The event will be held at Villa Itaipava Resort, where he participated and co-organized, together with Avelar Sports, the Desafio dos Gigantes, in March this year. Now, there are only three races left until Henrique Avancini retires before the end of the year (check the calendar at the end of the report).
Henrique Avancini is 34 years old and was a two-time Mountain Bike world champion, in the XCM race, the Marathon, in 2018 and 2023. At the Olympics, however, the races are in the XCC format. At Tokyo-2021, for example, he finished 13th in this test, Brazil’s highest placing in the history of the sport. Furthermore, the cyclist is a 23-time Brazilian champion and is largely responsible for the opening of the MTB World Cup in Petrópolis, in 2022.
