High temperatures and low air humidity? Check out tips for dealing with hot and dry weather

The Inmet forecast for the city of Sao Paulo indicates for this Sunday (24th) a maximum of 36°C and a relative air humidity of 20%

High temperatures and low relative humidity: Brazil is experiencing an unprecedented heat wave in this late winter month of September.

All regions of the country are affected by a large “bubble” of warm, dry air which prevents the entry of cold waves and causes high temperatures, especially in the states and capitals of the Central West and South East. According to a forecast from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the heat wave is expected to persist until the beginning of next week.

Sao Paulo, for example, one of the coldest Brazilian capitals, could surpass the record set on October 17, 2014, when thermometers reached 37.8ºC. This Sunday (17th), the capital Sao Paulo had its hottest day of 2023: 33.9°C. For next Sunday the institute forecasts 36°C in the city with relative humidity of 20%.

Discover tips to beat the heat and improve the body’s rehydration:

1- Drink lots of water (about two liters a day or 10 200 ml glasses of water). Hydrates all organs, including skin and mucous membranes.

2- Hydrate the mucous membranes well with saline solution – at least twice a day;

3- Wash your eyes with saline solution or artificial tear drops;

4- Be careful with alcoholic drinks. They may initially cool down, but also become dehydrated;

5- Keep the house clean, avoiding the accumulation of dust;

6- Avoid doing physical activity from 11:00 to 17:00;

7- Protect yourself from the sun as much as possible and avoid drying out your mucous membranes and skin.
