Gary Oldman almost played a villain in “Star Wars”

Can you imagine what it would be like to participate in major movie sagas, such as “Harry Potter”, Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” and even “Star Wars”? British actor Gary Oldman almost did it. Sirius Black in the franchise of the most famous wizard on screen and Jim Gordon in Gotham, has been somewhat left out of the George Lucas prequel trilogy.

Gary Oldman will play one of the villains in “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” (2005). He would be the voice of General Grievous, the separatist cyborg and leader of the droid army. The role ended with voice actor Matthew Wood, who went on to work on the animation “The Clone Wars”.

The 64-year-old actor revealed the information while promoting his new “Slow Horses” series on the Apple TV + streaming platform. In a podcast interview Happy Sad Confusedexplained that he lost the role due to union issues at the film’s location in Australia.

But, before leaving the project, he also recorded a few lines. “He [George Lucas] It was fantastic, “said Gary Oldman. Despite the revelation, the actor, nor anyone else, can tell if one day fans of the” Star Wars “universe will be able to hear his voice as the evil general.

Despite the revelation, the Brit added that he will not appear in Galaxy films far, far away under the tutelage of Disney. There has been some speculation, all of which are rejected by Oldman.

General Grievous would be another villain for Gary Oldman’s iconic roster. The actor has, in his career, Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg, from “The Fifth Element” (1997), and the voice of Lord Shen, the villain of “Kung Fu Panda 2” (2011).

Interestingly, 2005, the year of Revenge of the Sith debut, had exactly two appearances of Gary Oldman in the theaters of the other two major franchises. It was this year that “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”, the fourth in the saga and the second featuring him as Sirus Black, and “Batman Begins”, the first as Jim Gordon, premiered.
