Is This Crawl Story In Theaters 2019? A young woman (Kaya Scodelario) goes to Florida after a hurricane to find her missing father (Barry Pepper).
When she finds him badly injured in the basement of the family home, she realizes that they are both threatened by the flood, which is moving at an alarming rate and … alligators!
Behind this ultra-efficient, generous and inventive entertainment lies a fantastic team who have proven themselves in the field of screen thrills. In production we find the Frenchman Alexandre Aja, to whom we owe Haute Tension, La Colline a des yeux and Piranha 3D.
And in production, it’s Sam Raimi who officiates. Yes, yes, the father of Evil Dead and the first Spider-Man trilogy. No wonder we experience shivers while watching a feature film!
Still on the fence about whether or not to press play to discover this jaw-dropping version of “The Alligator in the Flooded House”? Just so you know, Quentin Tarantino named Crawl one of his favorite movies of 2019, along with Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman and Dr. Sleep!
According to Pete Hammond of the website DeadlineTarantino was impressed by what he saw “In terms of pure cinematography”. Alexander Aja should have appreciated the compliment!
All of the alligators on screen were created digitally, and the heads were saved for some tight shots. Alexander Aja, who spoke to us about his Crawl during the release, worked with the firm Rodeo FX to create the models used in the film. More than a third of the budget was reserved for digital visual effects.
For Kroll, Alexander Aja wanted to create realistic yet terrifying alligators. Along with the visual effects studio, he was inspired by two impressive specimens: a Mississippi alligator nearly 4 meters long, exhibited at the New York Museum of Natural History, and another alligator named Godzilla, which lives in a shelter in Miami.
Crawl was a huge box office success with over 91 million receipts worldwide (on a 17 million budget) and nearly half a million releases in French cinemas.
