Hollywood needs to ‘do more’ in telling Native American stories, says DiCaprio

Star of Flower Moon Assassinsnext film by Martin Scorsese which tells the story of murders in the indigenous tribe of Osage, Leonardo DiCaprio criticized the industry Hollywood and pointed out how films and series need to “do more” when telling stories about Native Americans.

During an interview with Vogue with Lily Gladstone, DiCaprio recalled all the work necessary to represent indigenous people in a fair and adequate way. “Hollywood has a long history and troubled past in representing Native American people,” he said.

We need to do more. You know, we’re heading towards a great reckoning about our past. The more these stories can be told truthfully, the more it can be a healing process.

Furthermore, the very Scorsese decided to speak on this topic: “I hope we have done justice and raised awareness about a horrific chapter in American history, largely unknown outside of Native communities. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is to me.”
