When the first film screening took place in March 1895, only 30 people attended and it was almost impossible to know whether it would become the hit we know today. After that worked, it became common to order posters to promote these films. And today the first movie posters in history are worth a lot of money – and they are up for auction!

Just 30 people attended the first screening by the Lumiére brothers, considered pioneers of cinematographic practice. About a year later, more than 2 thousand spectators attended his shows.
At the time, films were short, some lasting less than a minute, but they held audiences’ attention. It was on this second occasion that the success of the event led to the ordering of two posters to promote the Paris exhibitions, advertising a work lasting just 49 seconds, called “Arroseur Arrose” (The Sprinkler).
In the future these posters will become “posters” of the Cinema.
