3 good places to try different ice creams in Sao Paulo

Ingredients such as flower spirulina, goat cheese and rose ice cream are on the menu of ice cream parlors such as the Italian Albero dei Gelati, the award-winning Gelato Boutique and the Lebanese Bachir

September 23rd is Ice Cream Day, a dessert that arrived in Brazil in the 19th century and which has more and more flavors and preparation possibilities. To start the celebrations, this week’s three good places to… are dedicated to places that offer unusual flavours, which are added to the menu according to the seasonality of the ingredients.

Blue ice cream is present at the Ice Cream Tree

In the ice cream shop founded in Italy in 1985 and which opened its doors here in 2019, there is no shortage of different flavours. The blue ice cream, made with spirulina, freshwater algae and flower infusion leaves no doubt that exoticism, in addition to the choice of organic ingredients in the preparation of recipes, is an advantage for the house.

“It was the first ice cream that my daughter Aurora tried in Italy and she fell in love with it, which is why she wanted to make it at Albero”, explains ice cream maker Fernanda Pamplona, owner of the store that manages the ice cream shop. production in Brazil. “The taste of seaweed is very different from what we are used to and the infusion of the flowers means that we start to feel the flavor through our sense of smell.”

Another flavor worth the adventure of trying something new is canastra cheese ice cream with jataí bee honey and chestnuts, made with organic milk from Fazenda Terra Límpida and Capim Canastra cheese. From different series, but with a very Italian accent, the ice cream shop presents tiramisu ice cream, with mascarpone paste, Svoiardi biscuits dipped in espresso coffee and cocoa powder.

At Albero, the use of natural inputs purchased from small producers is a priority, as is the seasonality of the ingredients. And, of course, creativity in creating recipes. “Our motto is: everything good can become ice cream”, believes Fernanda.

The rose ice cream is what, by far, stands out in the menu of different flavours.

Bachir’s first ice creams were made with ice from the mountains of Lebanon and seasonal fruit. It is a brand of family origin, which is already in its third generation.
