Luxa asks Corinthians fans to support the players in the South American semi-final: “You don’t need to hug me”

Coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo left a message for Corinthians fans after the 1-0 victory against the Botafogo team last Friday. The coach asked Fiel to support the players in the semi-final of the Copa Sudamericano, even if there is distrust in their work. Luxa said fans don’t need to hug him, but rather support the athletes.

When asked about the pressure he was under, Luxemburgo said he was calm and used to the situation. For two games in a row, his name was booed when the team’s lineup was announced at the Neo Química Arena.

“I’m very happy, calm, I knew it would be a difficult job. I have no problems facing this job, there are clubs that expect a lot from the coach, Corinthians much more. None of this scares me. Now we have the chance to reach the final of a continental tournament and this Corinthians fan hugs the team, he doesn’t need to hug me, it will be very important that they are here and hug the players, making this a melting pot. “A difficult situation for the opponent . Feeling this human warmth that will enter the game. The whistles don’t worry me, it’s part of the job. It’s a question of sensitivity, but it’s difficult, I won’t succeed. . It depends a lot on the result. I wish our work was better, much better, but unfortunately that’s not the case. I wanted to play the final of the Copa do Brasil, in the Libertadores zone,” Luxa began in the press conference.

“But when I arrived, if I asked you (the journalist) what you wanted, you would say that you don’t want to go to the second division. But when we reached the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil, you would say you want to go to the final, same thing now. But who did you believe that we would reach the semi-final of the Copa do Brasil? Especially because against Atlético-MG no one believed in our comeback, and we succeeded. It’s a job. “It’s being done. Now it’s up to the fans to understand that it’s essential for them to be with us, but it’s not necessary to hug me,” added the coach.

Despite the discontent in the stands, the Corinthians management is not thinking of removing Luxemburgo from command of the team. The idea is to keep the coach until the end of the season, when his contract with the club expires.

For 2024, however, the trend is that Luxa will not continue in Timão. Both André Negão, presidential candidate for Situação, and Augusto Melo, from the opposition, have other plans regarding the leadership of the team.

In this third period at the club, Luxembourg has played 37 matches, with 14 wins, 11 draws and 12 defeats. The victory against Botafogo was fundamental for Timão, who distanced themselves from the relegation zone.

Now, Corinthians will return to the pitch next Tuesday, again at the Neo Química Arena, to face Fortaleza, in the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericano.
