‘None of this was planned in the script’: Impressive John Wick scene explained by stunt coordinator

After four films, the saga of John Wick continues in the series The Continental, available on Prime Video. The story takes place in the seventies, therefore, without Keanu Reeves, and is particularly interested in the character of Winston (Colin Woodell) and the Hotel Le Continental, a favorite hideout of criminals.

The first of three episodes delivers on its promises in terms of action, and one final scene in particular is likely to blow the minds of fans of the franchise. He confronts Yen (Nhung Kate) with the killer in the kitchen. The originality of this sequence lies in the everyday accessories used for combat, such as irons.

And while the fight between the two characters begins in this tiny space, the violence builds to a crescendo and the scene ends with, among other things, a hand stuck in a sink.

We wanted to do something unique and different.

None of this was planned in the scriptreveals Larnell Stovall, stunt coordinator interviewed by AlloCiné in London. Directors allow my team to express themselves and come up with ideas. Once these ideas are generated, they are integrated into the script so that other departments can prepare.

It’s a bit like saying, “Okay, we’re in an apartment. We’re going to fight in the kitchen. What things can we use? A common thing would be a knife.Larnell Stovall continues. We wanted to do something unique and different.”

The rest is improvised with decor elements: “When we see clothes hanging, it means that there is an ironing board, or an iron. So we wanted to make sure we took advantage of these unique opportunities and turned them into weapons. The next time the audience uses an iron, maybe this scene will come to mind (laughs).

When asked if he likes bloody effects, Larnell Stovall says without hesitation: “I love it. Wait till you see what I try to do next.” You have been warned.

Continental is available on Prime Video. Episode two is available this Friday.
