Pato lives indefinitely in Sao Paulo after being excluded from the matches against Coritiba

Alexandre Pato has an indefinite future at San Paolo. The attacker wasn’t even on the list for Wednesday’s match, against Coritiba, at Morumbi, for the Brazilian Championship, even with the Tricolor team taking to the field with a completely alternative formation.

The choice of Dorival Júnior in a duel in which all the protagonists did not start playing shows how far behind Alexandre Pato is compared to his other teammates. The striker has long since recovered from a serious knee ligament injury and has so far failed to convince the coaching staff that he can compete on equal terms with the rest of the San Paolo squad.

“Pato continues to work, to intensify and, from the moment I feel confident in signing him, I have no doubt that this will happen. I have always liked the athlete a lot, my way of thinking has never been different. At this moment I really liked the athlete. I will give priority to those who, in my opinion, are a little further ahead and I will try to get the best out of each one”, commented Dorival Júnior.

Pato has played ten games for San Paolo this season, nine of them coming on the bench. The attacker scored two goals, one in the classic against Santos and another in the match against América-MG.

“It is not easy for a coach, with almost 40 athletes, to use everyone. We have trained two teams and there are still many players left. Managing all this is very complicated, I have to visualize who is in the best conditions” condition at the moment. It may be that I’m wrong, but I try to be as correct as possible in relation to the moment that everyone is experiencing”, concluded the San Paolo coach.

With a contract valid only until the end of the current season, Pato still doesn’t know where he will play in 2024. The fact is that, given the situation, his stay at Morumbi is increasingly in doubt.
