Almost a year ago today, Newen, the company behind the detective series HPI, announced in a press release that an American version of the fictional phenomenon would see the light of day.
Titled High Potential, this remake takes HPI’s origins and follows Morgan, a woman with an exceptional IQ and mother of three, who forms an unlikely and unstoppable team with Commander Karadetz.
For this occasion, Kaitlin Olson (Philadelphia) will have to replace the irreplaceable Audrey Fleurotti. And it seems the latter isn’t too sure about this American version of HPI.
“They don’t allow themselves what we allow ourselves”
Jury president of the 25th edition of the La Rochelle Art Festival, which took place from September 12 to 16, Audrey Fleuro shared some secrets about this American remake that she was looking forward to discovering. “I’m very interested, but I haven’t seen anything yet“- he explained to the journalists.
“My producers saw it. I believe that overall, there is a bit of an equalization because they don’t allow themselves what we allow ourselves. I think the art direction has added value because they’ve pulled out all the stops financially, so image-wise it’s updated.”
“But I’m not sure that HPI is a project that requires crazy resources and decorations. Again, I haven’t seen anything, so I’m in a bad place, but I think the tone is more important, and I think they censored us a little bit.“
“I’ll be happy if they screw it up“- he added with a laugh. Audrey Fleuro still admitted that she was interested to see this version and especially what they did with her character, even if she admitted that she was not satisfied with the actor who would take her place.
“I find Caitlin Olson-Lad a little too pretty, I find that everything is a little too pretty, but at some point you need something a little trashy. Rimmel should come in a little, otherwise we are somewhere else, we are in Hollywood. But once again I couldn’t see anything“.
While Audrey Floro enjoys seeing all the HPI adaptations around the world, there’s one version she’d really like to see. “I think if any country can make a great version, it would be English. They could have done something crazier. I would be interested there“It remains to be seen whether this will give ideas to our British neighbours.
