‘Lightyear’: First reactions to the solo adventure of the hero of ‘Toy Story’

To infinity and beyond?

‘Toy Story’ was Pixar’s first film and also the first feature film created by 3D digital animation. It was a turning point both artistically and technologically in a bustling industry where what was pioneering in 1995 is now the rule. For this reason, with Pixar now belonging to a Disney that gets more juice than ever from its products after launching Disney +, it is not surprising that producers related to that first Pixar film continue to come out.

Beyond the four numbered movies, ‘Lightyear’ is a strange spin-off, more than anything because it is not based on the character in the movies, but on the fantasy on which the toy in the movies is based. That is to say, we are going to discover what that fictional world is really like, of which our beloved Buzz is merchandising.

For this Chris Evans has replaced the legendary Tim Allen as the original voice of the character. Although the film will not hit Spanish theaters until June 17, last June 8 was the world premiere of the film in California. Therefore, some privileged have already seen the new Pixar film and have commented on their impressions on social networks.

Ian Sandwell of DigitalSpystates that while the film may not be necessary, it’s great to watch, defining it as: “A retro sci-fi adventure that’s witty, emotional and visually stunning, set to another majestic score by Michael Giacchino.”

Most of the reactions agree in applauding the impressive images of the film and the charming characters. Of course, as expected, much of the affection is stolen from Buzz by his cat Sox. And when there is a cat…

It seems that in this game it’s about the ‘Toy Story’ universe, the movie we are going to see is precisely the one that Andy saw in ‘Toy Story’ and obsessed the boy with Buzz Lightyear, a space adventure of Buzz and his company on a planet hostile. Together with his robot cat, the astronaut will try to return home through time and space while he tries to prevent the evil Emperor Zurg from ruining his mission… We understand Andy.

We can see everything related to ‘Toy Story’ and other Pixar movies on Disney + Spain, but to see ‘Lightyear’ we will have to go to the cinema from June 17.

Lightyear is released in theaters on June 17.
