The heart surgery that the national president of the Workers’ Party (PT), Gleisi Hoffmann, underwent this Saturday “was very successful”, MP Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) said on social media.
“As impossible as it was, it worked,” he said. “It was very important that we find this out, it was a routine test, it discovered this coronary blockage which could lead to a heart attack. We acted immediately.”
Gleisi, who is also a federal deputy from Paraná, underwent myocardial revascularization surgery at the DF Star hospital, in Brasilia. She had been hospitalized since Thursday, after tests revealed a coronary obstruction.
The hospital said on Friday that the procedure “is routinely performed in cases of coronary heart disease, and involves the placement of a breast graft and saphenous bypass, which create a new pathway for blood to flow to the heart.”
