Before Bernard Tapia, there was… Bernard Tapia (Pronounced the American way: Tapaï). Among the many lives of the former businessman explored by the Netflix series, the sequel allowed us to discover him as a young version of the singer competing with upstart Michelle Polnareff on a talent show broadcast in the 60s.
This sequence is not the only one where Bernard Tap sings, as the latter is also shown in the middle of the music show, during rehearsals for his show Réussite (which was actually called Ambitions).
The two series clearly feature Laurent Lafitte as Tapie, but did the Comedie-Française resident himself provide the singing scenes in the series? At our microphone, the latter confirmed with a smile that his voice is indeed heard in the musical passages of the program.
During the interview with our colleagues Recreational televisionSeries co-creator Tristan Seguela went behind-the-scenes to film this series, unlike any other, which required writing and recording an original song due to lack of rights to use the song performed by Tapie:
He really enjoyed doing it. We pre-recorded it before shooting because we needed it on the set. He spent a day in the studio for “A Life of Success,” which is like a cover of “Réussir sa vie,” because we didn’t have the rights to the latter. It was written in the tone of the songs that were being made at the time without any particular secondary.
