From what the numbers indicate, US audiences preferred lighter films to the bizarre and harrowing horror of one of the most popular franchises of the 2000s. According to Box Office Mojo, PAW Patrol 2: a movie with superpowers passed Saw upon its debut, grossing $23 million in its first weekend, compared to $18 million for its sequel Jigsaw.
Despite the second position of Sawthe sequel’s premiere already has the franchise’s best opening since 2010, when it was released Seen: the ending.
Although it fell short of initial expectations, which predicted a box office gross of $20 million, the prequel was highly anticipated by fans of the genre: being the last film in the series, Spiral – The legacy of the saw (2021), was not received as well by the public, despite having included the saga among the franchises that have already grossed 1 billion dollars at the box office.
I saw 10 is set between the events of the first and second feature films, when Jigsaw discovers his illness and leaves for treatment in Mexico. Deceived by the doctors, the serial killer decides to “teach” some lessons by involving professionals in his macabre games.
It’s worth noting that, according to data from Box Office Mojo, Barbie remains among the 10 most-watched films of the weekend in the U.S., building on impressive momentum.
