‘The most chaotic scene for the series’, ‘I have no words’…: Why this Gen V series is so talked about

As season four approaches, The Boys has been teasing viewers with a mix of superhero action, social satire, and scenes that are each crazier than the last. Gen V, a sort of spin-off or spin-off series, unsurprisingly, follows the same path.

The only difference is that this time the story takes place within the walls of a university that welcomes young people gifted with extraordinary – and often chaotic – powers. The heroine of this new story is Marie Moreau (Jazz Sinclair), who can use her blood as a weapon. To do this, he must harm himself and give the rest of the fluids.

It is with this character that the first episode begins, and the least we can say is that the scene in question did not leave the audience indifferent. True to the tone of the original series, Gen V opens with a bloody, utterly gory, and — for a reason? – Subversive.

Warning spoilers, the next paragraph will demystify the scene in question.

We find Marie Moreau surrounded by her family. While in the living room, he suffers from stomach pains, which forces him to lock himself in the bathroom. It’s no secret: Marie is a teenager, her body is changing, and the pain marks the onset of menstruation.

In the toilet, a young teenager discovers to her horror that her period is rolling in front of her. This is panic. His mother, who had gone upstairs to make sure everything was okay, forced her way through the door and her throat was cut by a gush of blood. A few seconds later, it’s Dad’s turn to leave.

The scene ends with an explosion of blood because, after all, why not. It’s almost a tradition Boys : Use sensitive situations and push boundaries to provoke or entertain the audience.

The formula here is almost simple. Even if the topic of menstruation has become more popular on screen in recent years, it remains a taboo subject in fiction – and even in life in general. The use of this important period in the life of a young woman for the first shock of society is quite predictable.

There is no shortage of reactions on social networks, especially X (Twitter):

I knew the boys were crazy… but the Gen V series just started with a girl killing her parents with period blood. I’ve never seen such a crazy opening.”

I had my mouth on the floor during the first scene of General V and then it got worse.”

Has anyone seen Gen V? It was definitely the most chaotic opening scene for the series.”

Gen V is available on Prime Video.
