Metro strike: SP records 598 km of slowdowns and above average traffic


The subway and CPTM outage is expected to last at least 24 hours. The slowness is recorded in several regions of São Paulo




Due to the strike of Metro and Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) workers, traffic in Sao Paulo is slower than average this Tuesday 3. Residents who usually face congestion in some parts of the city during working hours tip, today they are facing chaos after the strike, which is expected to last 24 hours.

According to Folha de S. Paulo, a bulletin released by the Traffic Engineering Company (CET) reports that, around 8 am, the city had 598 km of congestion. The doctor traveled 439 km in the same hour on Monday morning, the 2nd. The measurement last Tuesday, the 26th, was 566 km.

The survey also revealed that in the northern region there was a slowdown of 13% above average, with 79 km; to the west with 19% more, with 113 km slower; 7% in the central region, with 39 km; 32% above the eastern municipality, given that there are 189 km of slowness; and 29% in the south, with 173 km.

Around 10:50 a.m. these numbers dropped, according to the CET website. The northern region showed 45 km slowness, while the west recorded 109 km, the east 107 km and the south 97 km. Only the central region recorded an increase in slowness, with 55 km, 13% compared to the norm.

Due to the strike, the rotation of license plates for passenger vehicles was suspended in Sao Paulo last Tuesday and the measure continues to apply only to trucks. The movement of vehicles on preferential lanes and corridors remains limited.

The strike is being carried out together with the employees of the Sao Paulo State Health Company (Sabesp). The objective is to protest against the privatization plan of the three companies, created by the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republican) government.
