Hit in the coffers: see how much Corinthians stops winning in prizes with a drop in Fortaleza in Sula

Corinthians failed to raise an important sum for their coffers, ending up being eliminated by Fortaleza in the semi-final of the Copa Sudamericano last Tuesday. The club could have pocketed at least $2 million (around R$10 million) by qualifying for the final of the tournament.

If it were to win the competition title, Timão would have over 5 million dollars (around R$25.3 million) in its hands, for a total of almost $9 million (R$46.5 million) in prizes of the competition, taking into account that the club debuted in Sula in the playoffs, closing the group stage of the Libertadores in third place in its group.

With the fall against Leão do Pici, Corinthians said goodbye to the tournament having earned 2.5 million dollars, approximately 11.75 million reals. Adding this amount to the prize for the club’s participation in the Libertadores, around 6 million dollars came into Timão’s coffers, something around R$31 million, just from the Conmebol competitions, exceeding the expected budget target of 20, R$6 million raised from international tournaments.

Any sum is welcome for Corinthians’ coffers, considering that the club is going through a serious financial crisis. According to Alvinegro, the title would be important not only to crown the end of Duilio Monteiro Alves’ mandate, but also to alleviate the economic part of the association.

Now all that remains is to compete in the Brazilian championship. In the sporting objectives set for 2023, the club worked with the expectation of a 7th place in the national championship. Timão is currently 13th, with 30 points scored.

With no chance of winning the Brasileirão title, Duilio Monteiro Alves became the first president in the club’s history not to win any trophies in men’s football after 36 years.

Now Corinthians will return to the field next Saturday, against Flamengo, at the Neo Química Arena.
