Sony has released on social networks the first image of the villain of “Spider-Man Through the Spider-Verse”, the new animation of the Marvel hero. The character chosen to haunt Miles Morales was The Spot, who will be voiced by Jason Schwartzman (“Moonrise Kingdom”).

In a Twitter post, the studio described the character, introduced in the comics in 1984, as “Miles Morales’ most formidable foe to date.”

The three directors of the film also talked about the production and the choice of the villain this Monday (13/6) during a panel at the Annecy Festival in France.

“For those of you who aren’t geeks, Stain is one of the darkest references in Spider-Man’s Thieves Gallery,” co-director Kemp Powers said at the event. “But he has a superpower that has really excited our whole team: his whole body is covered in tiny interdimensional portals that can send him anywhere he wants.”

In the film, the villain will use these portals as weapons against web-slingers Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld). In addition to the duo, returning from “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” the production will also feature new heroes, such as Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac) and Jessica Drew (Issa Rae).

The new trio of directors, formed by Kemp Powers (writer and co-director of “Soul”), Portuguese Joaquim dos Santos (“Avatar: The Legend of Korra”) and Justin K. Thompson (background specialist who worked on “Star Wars”: Clone Wars “), replaces the original” Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse “trio – Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman – who won the Oscar for Best Animated Film.

“Spider-Man Through the Spider-Verse” will premiere on June 1, 2023 in Brazil, one day before its US release.
