What is it about?

“Noah, a young man with autistic disorder, is passionate about cooking. He learned recipes by heart from the age of 6. Unfortunately, he has difficulty finding and especially keeping a job in the kitchen due to his communication disorder. He has dyspraxia.

After another setback, his mother Virginie gave him the opportunity to realize his dream. His project: to create an inclusive restaurant that rents to young people with cognitive disabilities. For his part, Philippe Lamarck, an excellent chef, loses his star just when he was hoping to gain another.

Her over-the-top angry reaction and her comments demeaning people with disabilities were filmed without her knowledge, the video went viral. This episode destroys his career: he loses his job, his reputation and all hope. To improve his image, he agrees to work at Virginia’s next restaurant: La Belle Sparkle.

The audience finds Melanie Dutte (Virginia), Bernard Campan (Philippe) and Lionel Astier (Gerard) in the main roles of this fiction. These seasoned actors respond in particular to Gautier Gagnier, who slips into the shoes of Noah. This 24-year-old autistic young man is taking his first steps as an actor in this project.

Filmed at the real restaurant La Belle Spark, most employees of the facility with mental or cognitive disabilities agreed to participate in this feature film. The plot of this TV movie is inspired by true events. It is directed by Hervé Mimran, Beatrice Furnera and Carolyn Frank were responsible for the writing.

Is it worth checking out?

La Belle Spark shows once again that people with disabilities can fully engage in professional life… and we need to keep reminding people of this! Even if this fiction gives pride of place to good feelings, it never descends into pathos.

One of the strengths of this TV movie is its distribution. We feel the involvement of the actors in their approach. Sparkling as ever, Melanie Dutt is perfect and charming as this mother determined to make her son’s dream come true. Bernard Campan, on the other hand, perfectly portrays this rude and very clumsy leader in certain situations…

Gauthier Gagnière, making his on-camera debut, gives an honest and believable first performance, as do the rest of his disabled on-screen comrades, who are, for the most part, employees of the real restaurant La Belle Sparkle!

Everyone here delivers a natural performance and delivers lines that emphasize to put things in perspective… and sometimes (get) ideas on the spot! Their sincerity and naturalness really cements this fiction into reality.

La Belle Sparkle is a delightful TV movie where tolerance and humanity reign supreme. Inclusive, it tackles an important subject with some innovation and the story is told with simplicity, kindness. The only downside is that the audience will not be surprised by the progress of this happy story and then the ending.
