Hapvida falls more than 5% after ANS data shows a decline in the number of beneficiaries in August

Hapvida shares were among the worst performers on the Ibovespa this Thursday, trading at their lowest since July and extending the week’s losses to more than 10%.

At 1.48pm the stock fell by 5.03%, to 4.15 reais, while the Ibovespa lost 0.69%. At their worst they reached 4.11 reais. During the week the decline reached almost 12%.

Citi analysts drew attention to data from the National Agency for Supplementary Health (ANS) showing steady growth in the sector, with 97.1 thousand new members in August, while Hapvida reported a decline in the number of beneficiaries.

“Hapvida continues on a downward trend, losing 42,700 healthcare beneficiaries in August… with negative growth in its two verticals: Notre Dame Intermédia and Hapvida,” they said in a report to clients this Thursday.

According to Leantro Bastos and the Citi team, SulAmérica, of Rede D’Or, and Bradesco Saúde, of Bradesco, also continued to lose lives with net decreases of 15.3 thousand and 8.1 thousand respectively in August.

On the other hand, they underlined, Amil remains in the lead with an “impressive” net addition of 56.2 thousand beneficiaries in August, followed by a “substantial growth” in Porto Seguro, with an increase of 16.8 thousand members.
