Anderson Barros exempts Abel from blame for Palmeiras elimination: “It’s the board’s responsibility”

This Thursday (5), Palmeiras hosted Boca Juniors at Allianz Parque for the second leg of the Libertadores semi-finals and was eliminated after a 1-1 draw in regulation time, on penalties.

As a result, without qualifying for the final of the international competition for the third time in the last four editions and saying goodbye to the dream of the fourth, Alviverde begins to focus exclusively on the Brasileirão for the rest of the season.

After the duel, Anderson Barros crossed the mixed zone and gave an interview to the journalists present there. The sporting director of Palmeiras spoke about the statements of coach Abel Ferreira, who defined himself as the main “culprit” of Alviverde’s home elimination.

“It’s not Abel’s responsibility, it’s ours (the board of directors’) for everything we’ve done in recent years. I’m very aware of the work, of how much everyone, players, employees and professionals, works. We all search incessantly for the result. part of It hurts. It’s absolutely his responsibility, it’s ours,” Barros said.

The director, much criticized – as was president Leila Pereira – for the lack of purchases in the last transfer window, avoided saying that the responsibility for Palmeiras’ elimination fell on the absence of reinforcements.

“Not only that, football is much more complex than that. Football is not just a question of recruitment. It is also, for example, the retention of athletes, which we did in the last transfer window. Palmeiras must believe in what is carried out by the Institution”, he added.

The next time they take the field, Palmeiras will have a classic ahead of them. The team led by Abel Ferreira will face Santos this Sunday at 4pm (Brasilia time), at the Arena Barueri, in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship.
