Disturbances occurred during a search operation to confiscate mobile phones and illicit substances; eight inmates were injured

Late on Friday morning (6), there was a start of rebellion in the regional prison of Caxias do Sul. According to information from Susepe (Superintendence of Penitentiary Services), the inmates caused disturbances during a search of the cells, which was to confiscate mobile phones and other illicit substances on the spot.

During the incident, mattresses were set on fire and some inmates managed to break down the fence that separates wing B from the courtyard, where they normally have access to sunbathe. Officers from the Criminal Police and Susepe prevented an escape attempt.

Eight inmates were injured, one of whom required emergency treatment. The rest were sent to the Department of Forensic Medicine (DML) for forensic examination.

The news had repercussions, causing apprehension among the families of the prisoners, who were left without information on the health status of the injured. Despite the confusion, traffic on BR-116, near the prison, was not affected, but moved slowly due to the curiosity of motorists.
