What is SPY x FAMILY?
The border states of Ostania and Vestalin seem on the brink of imminent war. While relations between the two countries are more strained than ever, the Vestalis government sends Twilight, its top secret agent, to Ostania to carry out a secret mission of great importance: to get close to the influential Donovan Desmond, an extremist political figure who is ready. To do everything possible to start a war against his rivals.
In order to complete this task, Bindi must succeed in becoming a citizen of Ostania by adopting the country’s customs and starting a family. He then surrounds himself with Anya, a charming telepathic girl who sees through his game, and Yor Braar, a wise civil servant with a calm and stern appearance. What Twilight doesn’t know is that Yori is a secret assassin herself!
The members of this makeshift family will have to hide their true identities to achieve their goals, but also get to know each other in order to strengthen the cover… even if that means forgetting that it’s a facade?
Espionage x humor x emotion
At the 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards (including the “Best New Arrival” and “Best Comedy” awards), SPY X FAMILY managed to create unanimity among fans and critics.
The recipe for this quick and dazzling success? An original cocktail of genres, both explosive and delicious. Count the spy program, but above all a lot of humor and a mess of emotions.
The humor especially comes from the gap between genres. Two spies, doomed to play the role of perfect parents, lose all their professional credibility.
Anya, on the other hand, effortlessly manages to move beyond the mascot role she could have limited herself to, to allow for real character development that never ceases to amaze the audience.
They eventually fall into the game and, like the targets of this grand masquerade, believe in the existence of this previous family. It’s enough to shed a few tears of laughter, but not only that!
An anime of the moment that you shouldn’t miss!
Adapted from 2022 to series by CloverWorks (The Promised Neverland) and Wit Studios (Attack on Titan), Tatsuya Endo’s work sees his beloved characters come to life in one of the most dynamic and colorful series of recent years.
And dubbing actors have nothing to do with it! Fine ears will be delighted to detect the dark voice of Takuya Eguchi (Sword Art Online, Kuroko’s Basket, Haikyu!!) as Twilight or the catchy high notes of award-winning Atsumi Tanezaki (Dr. Stone, Demon Slayer, Beastars). 14th and 17th Seiyu Awards in the “Best Actress” category.
A success confirmed by AlloCiné viewers, whose average rating for the first season is no less than 4.2 out of 5!
Missed the first season of SPY x FAMILY? Good news: the arrival of new episodes, starting October 7 on Crunchyroll, is a great opportunity to discover this world that you will not be able to tear yourself away from!
