Chancellor Mauro Vieira still calls for “self-control”
BRASILIA, 09 OCT – The Brazilian government launched this Monday (9) an appeal for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine, following the attacks launched on Saturday (7) by the radical group Hamas.
“Everyone should immediately stop the violence and exercise maximum self-restraint to prevent the situation from worsening further,” Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said, during a visit to Jakarta, Indonesia.
“The current dynamics between Israel and Palestine are unsustainable and a solution to this situation is needed, with Israel and Palestine coexisting in peace and security and with mutually agreed and internationally recognized borders,” the chancellor reinforced after a meeting with the his counterpart Retno Marsudi.
The Minister recalled that on Sunday (7) Brazil chaired an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, in New York, to address the crisis.
“Under Brazil’s presidency of the United Nations Security Council, we will redouble multilateral efforts to contain the spiral of violence and unblock the peace process,” he underlined. .
