Movie Quiz: Impossible to score 9/9 on these questions!

This is a fairly common misinterpretation when talking about Wim Wenders’ masterpiece, Paris, Texas. The title of the film does not actually refer to a possible journey from the French capital to the depths of the American state, but to the city of the same name in Texas (there are also 23 Paris cities throughout the United States).

Many other movie titles also contain the name of one of the fifty-two US states. Before we begin this quiz, let’s recap this 1984 Palme d’Or shoot with a few anecdotes.

Sam Shepard and LM Kit Carson wrote the screenplay in Paris, Texas. Sam Shepard is known for his acting performances, most notably in The Stuff of Heroes (1983, Philip Kaufman) and Black Hawk Down (2001, Ridley Scott). In the United States, he is a famous playwright and theater director.

A ridiculous advantage

Paris, Texas is Harry Dean Stanton’s favorite movie of all the productions he’s starred in. At that time, he had already starred in no less than 48 feature films, not counting his numerous television roles. However, the actor does not speak a word until the 26th minute of the film, playing an unusual character to say the least.

Wim Wenders filmed Paris, Texas in chronological order, i.e. after the opening of the story. Usually, the scenes in the film are shot out of order and the story is put in the right order during editing.

The director is in the process of preparation

Wim Wenders’ assistant on set in Paris, Texas is none other than Claire Danes. The director called him again Wings of Desire (1987). Later, he will make his own films. We owe him a special debt for Beau Travail (1999) and Friday Night (2001).
