Ballerina on Netflix: What’s the new 100% South Korean action movie that’s a hit on the platform?

Please note that the film Ballerina, which will be released on Netflix this Friday, September 6, is not to be confused with Ballerina, the spin-off of the John Wick saga with Anna de Arma, which will be in theaters next summer. But it’s hard not to associate this new South Korean action feature with the franchise headed by Keanu Reeves…

Ballerina’s story is about a former bodyguard whose best friend was killed. Unable to grieve, the latter decides to execute justice himself by tracking down and killing his friend’s killers.

A story of bloody and merciless revenge, Ballerina is an action film that lasts just 93 minutes. It’s therefore a fairly short format that wastes no time developing its plot, as the focus seems to be more on the number of action sequences (perfectly staged) than on character development.

As its title suggests, Ballerina is a true ballet of ultraviolence and shootings Perfectly choreographed. This feature film by Chung-Hyun Lee (the excellent The Call) is a complete mastery of the codes of modern action cinema.

The talent of the young filmmaker, barely 33 years old, is shown especially in his visual inventiveness, which we find both in the staging of action scenarios and in the gallery of murders carried out by his main character.

With Ballerina currently number three in France’s 10 most watched movies, there’s no doubt that Netflix has its new hit from South Korea. Now it remains to be seen if the platform will provide a sequel to this feature film which has been verified by internet users!

Ballerina is now available exclusively on Netflix.
