What is it about?
A lover of painting and poetry, Mireille juggles her job as a waitress in a Beaux-Arts cafeteria in Charleville while making a living by petty theft and selling cigarette packs. Mireille decides to hire three tenants to maintain the large family home she inherits on the banks of the Meuse. Three men who disrupt her routine and prepare her, without knowing it, for the return of a fourth: her great childhood love, the poet.
Yolande Moreau returns to directing: 10 years have passed since the release of Henri. The filmmaker has also excelled in documentaries (Nulle part en France, for Arte in 2017) and acted in films for 10 years, but this Bride du Poet marks his big comeback.
In the film written with Frédéric Moreau, we meet his own world, gentle and charming. There is poetry in humor and vice versa. The film is full of burlesque discoveries that will captivate the audience.
As Yolande Moreau explains at the beginning of our interview, her starting point was the desire to write about fakes, but this time without a documentary box. It specifies: “What I was interested in was the usurpation… what is a lie, what is the truth? What is false in truth?“
Yolande Moreau, both behind and in front of the camera, was surrounded by a happy tribe consisting of Esteban, Gregory Gadebois, Thomas Guy and Sergi Lopez. The Poet’s Bride is also intended to be a film about the collective.
Listen to an episode of our new interview with Yolande Moreau, recorded at the Film Festival de la Francophonie, where the film was in competition and won an award for its screenplay.
The Poet’s Bride is released on Wednesday, October 11.
A beautiful poetic and political tale that must be seen in theaters this Wednesday, October 11, 2023.
