To see and watch again in streaming: A dark and bizarre fairy tale that set a trend in cinemas

Fairy tales are probably as old as humanity itself and we can already see a deeply psychological and super aesthetic retelling of them.

Revamping old content has a long tradition at Disneywhich has proven itself (at least in part) in recent years: despite the live-action The little Mermaid Although it did very well, box office results elsewhere were less than satisfactory. The story is completely different with Maleficentwhich grossed more than $750 million worldwide in 2014.

For release in some theaters, the dark fairy tale show had to be cut by 40 seconds to get a softer rating. The full version is available to stream as part of your Disney+ subscription.

WHY THE FAIRY BECAME “Evil”

Young Maleficent (Isobelle Molloy) forms a close friendship with Stefan (young: Toby Regbo/Michael Higgins). But the older he gets, the more Stefan changes due to his addiction to power. When King Henry (Kenneth Cranham) announces on his deathbed that anyone will kill Maleficent (now: Angelina Jolie) will be his successor, Stefan senses his chance.

Instead of killing her, he cuts off her wings and is crowned as a reward. Deeply hurt by the betrayal, Maleficent vows bitter revenge. When Stefan (now: Sharlto Copley) becomes the father of a girl, Maleficent places a curse on her and thereafter reigns as a dark queen over the swamps, around which she grows a hedge of thorns.
