Duolingo now teaches music, and the main app brings together language, music, and math lessons in the same place
Soon you will learn music using Duolingo. The application made a new course available to waiting lists today (11th) to teach how to read notes and play songs adapted to any instrument.

And there’s no need to download another app to access music lessons: Duolingo’s main app starts updating this Wednesday to bundle language, math, and music lessons in one place. The home screen already has a toggle to quickly switch between options and continue with tasks.
The exercises preserve the same gamified structure already known from the app. The musical part uses a digital piano, but the platform guarantees that the knowledge acquired can be applied to any other instrument.
The practical part of the teaching has dynamics for matching musical notes to keyboard keys, understanding the keys and applying them to the rhythm of a song – anyone who has played other music games, such as Guitar heroyou may notice a very familiar exercise.
To the CanaltechVanessa Jameson, director of engineering for new subjects at Duolingo, says the initiative’s mission “is to develop the best education and make it universally available.”
The executive also emphasizes that the app is aimed at beginners and people with more advanced knowledge. “Anyone interested in music can learn the fundamentals for free, all in Duolingo’s fun and motivating format. Our short lessons feel more like a game than a textbook, on purpose. Because if you have fun while you learn, you’ll stay motivated and focused” , explains.
New math exercises
In addition to the music and unified experience, the app has updated the math course with new exercises. New tasks include more advanced options, such as calculation suggestions and pattern identification.
Waitlist available
Starting this Wednesday (11th), anyone interested in Duolingo Music can join the app’s waitlist. The company plans to launch the feature for everyone later this year.
