To see at the cinema: Expendables 4, a new wave of action for Stallone and Statham

Nine long years after Expendables 3, the 4th opus hits theaters, promising a deluge of action! The action grandpa group led by Sylvester Stallone is back in action with a revamped team.

If Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture return, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jet Li will no longer be in the game.

The Expendables team features new kids: 50 Cent, Megan Fox, Andy Garcia, Jacob Scipio, Levi Tran and Tony Jaa. They all join forces with Rahmat, the big bad of this episode 4, played by the excellent Iko Uwais, star of The Raid saga. He succeeds Eric Roberts, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Mel Gibson.

New members, new style, new tactics for this wild new opus! Explosions, severed heads, broken necks, aggressive gunfights, blood splatters… the trailer of the film sets the tone, Stallone will not leave the franchise before offering us one last great deluge of violence!

In Expendables 4, the excellent team will have to face a group of terrorists led by Rahmat. The latter wants to start the third world war. With Barney out, Christmas, Toll and Gunnar are joined on this mission by 3 new members: Easy Day, Galan and Lash. They will try everything to avoid a new world conflict.

Indeed, in this 4th installment, Sylvester Stallone (Barney) will pass the baton to Jason Statham (Christmas) who will lead a group of big guns. For the interpreter of Rocky and Rambo, Expendables 4 will be his last appearance in the saga. At the end of filming his scenes, Stallone said that was the conclusion “bitter” for his character.

STATHAM is growing up, Schwarz is not

“I’m ready to pass the baton to Lee Shobis and leave the franchise in the hands of Jason Statham”he confided.

Note that this new opus does not welcome Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played the trench coat in previous episodes. The actor spoke paradereturned to his absence:

“It’s filmed and I’m not in it. When I said to Stallone, ‘We’ve done it and now I’m done,’ he really got it. I did the first Expendables for Sly.”

“We shot it quickly, on a Saturday for two hours at church with Bruce Willis. Sly said to me, ‘Oh, you can do it.’ Consumables 2 ?’ And I did it for a week. Then there was Expendables 3. But one day we’ll do something together again.”He pointed out.

After Stallone, Simon West and Patrick Hughes, it was Scott Waugh (Need For Speed) who took control of the 4th opus of Expendables. If it arrives in France on October 11, the feature film has already been released in the US on September 20.

With a substantial budget of $100 million, the film had the franchise’s worst start, collecting only $8 million in its opening weekend.

By comparison, the first film released in 2010 earned $34 million in its debut. Two years later, Expendables 2 grossed $28 million upon release; In 2014, The Expendables 3 made 15.8 million in its first week. Therefore, the 4th opus was almost half.

Will the piece’s international career make up for its poor score on American soil? We are so hopeful for the future of the franchise. At least in France, 3 episodes exceeded a million. Expendables 2 is the best selling 1.9 million fans.

Will this 4th iteration of the saga have the same success? Answer in a few weeks.
