Goodbye, Netflix? YouTube becomes the most consumed video platform by teenagers in the United States

Since its inception, Netflix has gained prominence among young audiences and has remained at the top of audiences for a long time, but things are about to change, at least in the United States. New research from investment bank Piper Sandler has found that American teenagers are choosing YouTube as their main source of video consumption.

“We question whether this is a push or pull regarding changes in consumer habits, as content on YouTube appears to improve over time and the streaming industry becomes increasingly competitive,” analysts at Piper Sandler.

The ranking

In addition to YouTube and Netflix competing for the top spot, the survey gave third place to Hulu, with 7% of daily consumption. Platforms such as Prime Video and Disney+ also appear in the survey, but with insignificant percentages.

It is important to highlight that Piper Sandler’s research only compared video/streaming platforms, without considering social networks, such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. In this regard, TikTok proved to be the preferred platform for 38% of those interviewed, while Instagram leads the monthly ranking.
