The Library of Africa and the African Diaspora (LOATAD) is accepting applications for the new Black Atlantic Residency 2024 program, which aims to bring together writers from across Africa and the diaspora.

With the central and collective theme: “What is Africa for me?”, writers whose productions involve or focus on Africa, the African diaspora and the Black Atlantic will be able to participate. Applications will be received online until October 29th.

Supported by the Hawthornden Foundation, the residency seeks to bridge the boundaries between writers from across the continent and the diaspora by physically bringing them together.

Inspired by the poem “Inheritance” (1925), by Countee Cullen, and Paul Gilroy’s 1993 text “The Black Atlantic” (1993), the immersive residency experience is designed to stimulate thought, expand creativity, and produce new knowledge.
