The subway workers’ union accuses the company of retaliation for the strike on the 3rd




The 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red and 15-Silver lines of the São Paulo metro were stopped on the morning of this Thursday 12th, due to a protest by workers in the category. The action began at 10am, surprising passengers, and the subway is not expected to reopen.

The subway workers’ union claims that the resistance is a response to the warnings that the company issues to employees in retaliation for the strike of 3. They accuse the company of demanding that employees do a job that is not theirs and, with the workers’ refusal, are notified.

“It is clear retaliation for the strike carried out on the 3rd. The strike has not even been judged yet. And Metro managers want to control everything,” the union posted on social media.

To the Earth, the movement reiterated that this is not a strike, but an organized strike against Metro’s behavior. The metro workers also say that they are seeking contact with the company’s management and with governor Tarcísio so that the warnings can be suspended and the situation and operation of the line can be normalized.

What does the subway say?

Metro told the journalist that it was surprised, without warning, by the action of the Metro Workers’ Union, “which once again damages the population with programs of personal interest and without dialogue.”

“This is a protest against a written warning issued by Metrô to 5 railway workers due to the repeated refusal of these professionals to carry out their duties. They refuse to participate in training courses and practical courses offered to other employees who are being trained for the role of train drivers, procedures that are part of the routine of subway workers,” reads the note.

The company explained that the warning does not lead to suspension or dismissal and does not affect the professional’s remuneration. If employees want to question the warning, Metrô says they can do so at an administrative or judicial level. “The warning, for now, only fulfills its role of giving employees the opportunity to correct their misconduct,” she adds.

Regarding the situation, the Metro states that it is studying the legal measures to be adopted and that the granted lines, which are not under its management, remain in regular operation and without risk of interruption.

Last strike

On the 3rd, the São Paulo metro lines stopped due to a joint strike by workers from the Companhia do Metropolitano de São Paulo (Metrô), the Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) and the Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de Sao Paulo. San Paolo (Sabesp). The interruption lasted 24 hours and the lines returned to normal operation on the 4th.

The strike was promoted by workers of the state’s public companies in response to the privatization intentions of governor Tarcísio de Freitas (republicans).
