On the seventh day of conflict, doctors say they were ordered to evacuate Al Awda hospital in northern Gaza within two hours
The escalation of violence in Israel x Hamas war took on new contours this Friday the 13th, the seventh day of the conflict, as Israel prepares a land invasion of Gaza. The government of Benjamin Netanyahu ordered more than 1 million Palestinians to leave the northern Gaza Strip by 6pm (Brasilia time). International analysts believe the country is close to launching a wave of ground attacks against Palestinian territory.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that they had already carried out a ground attack within the borders of Gaza in the last hours. The aim of the incursion would have been to save the bodies of the Israelis, abandoned in the region after the attack on a nearby rave party on Saturday 7th. Furthermore, they would also have destroyed Hamas bombs and missiles.
Since October 7, 1,799 Palestinians have died and 6,398 have been injured. On the Israeli side, 1,200 people died and more than 3,000 were injured.
Evacuation and desperation of Palestinians in Gaza
Israel went back and extended the deadline for the evacuation of the Al Awda Hospital, in the northern Gaza Strip, ordering them to leave the place by midnight (Brasilia time). Initially, Netanyahu’s government ordered the evacuation of the medical center in just two hours.
The organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which coordinates the hospital, condemned the request and called the action “continuous and indiscriminate bloodshed.” “We unequivocally condemn this action, the continued indiscriminate bloodshed and attacks on healthcare in Gaza. We are trying to protect our employees and patients,” the organization said.
“Israel’s 24-hour deadline for people in northern Gaza to leave their land, homes and hospitals is outrageous: it represents an attack on medical care and humanity. We have consistently witnessed dehumanizing language and this violence is a demonstration. We’re talking about more than a million human beings. “Unprecedented” doesn’t even cover the medical-humanitarian impact of it all. Gaza is razed, thousands of people are dying, this has to stop now. We condemn Israel’s request in the strongest possible terms,” said MSF Director General Meinie Nicolai.
“Request impossible”
Amnesty International, a human rights body, found that Israel’s warning to civilians in Gaza to evacuate to the south “cannot be considered an effective warning” and called for the order to be “revoked immediately ”.
The entity continues to consider the order equivalent to “forced displacement of the civilian population, a violation of international humanitarian law,” Amnesty International said in a statement. The deadline granted by the Israeli government was called “an impossible request.” since the Gaza Strip is completely besieged and the only possible border, with Egypt, is closed.
