Juarez Petrillo, father of DJs Alok and Bhaskar, recounted the moments of terror he experienced in Israel when he witnessed attacks by the Palestinian group Hamas. The musician was preparing to play at an electronic music festival when the venue was bombed. “Everyone started crying,” he recalled.
The DJ gave an interview to “Fantástico” and showed that he is still quite shaken by everything he saw. Petrillo explained that he was excited to participate in the electronic music event.
The site, near Kibbutz Re’im, about 6 kilometers from the Gaza Strip, regularly hosts parties. The event on the 6th had three stages and the visual identity of the Brazilian festival Universo Parallelo. In total 16 DJs will perform, including Juarez Petrillo and DJ Swarup. What was supposed to be a party, however, turned into a war scenario, in a terrorist attack by the Hamas group. More than 260 young people were killed, including three Brazilians.
War scenario
“It was already dawn, it was the most beautiful thing, when I looked at the track I said: ‘Guys, this is an incredible track’. Suddenly a bomb arrived, at that moment things changed. The women started panicked and started crying. It was a widespread thing. We could hear the sound of machine guns.”
He escaped because he was taken away in a car by the festival organizers.
The family
Alok also participated in the interview and spoke about the anguish he felt in seeking information about his father. “I saw that because of the videos on the internet I couldn’t talk to him. Then I managed to talk to a friend about him and only then to my father.”
“The money fell the next day, when we saw that there were more than 250 bodies near the festival area. We began to understand the severity of the terrorist attack. My father was trapped in a bunker, I wanted to get him out of every situation…right there,” Alok added.
The DJ’s father confessed that he clung to memories of his family to move forward and escape the attacks. “What gave me direction was when I remembered my grandchildren,” he said. “I had nothing to do with DJing anymore, I’m not a producer, I’m not an artist, I’m a grandfather.”
