Over 500 Disney Characters: This Missing Short is a Gem and the Most Beautiful Tribute to the Studio

This Monday, October 16, the Disney+ platform will present a new short film, Once upon a time a studio, produced in connection with the centennial anniversary of the company founded by Walt Disney.

Created and produced by Trent Corey and Dan Abraham, this little masterpiece was also the subject of a preview during the recent Annecy International Animation Festival.

The public’s enthusiastic reception to the film has left the two directors speechless. Faced with this massive enthusiasm, they decided to release the film for the second time in a row, a decision that was greeted with rapturous applause.

A well-deserved triumph for this barely 10-minute masterpiece, performed with heart and which will leave you with stars of happiness in your eyes.

This film, which combines live-action images and animation, features no less than 543 iconic people from Disney films: from Peter Pan to Moana, Winnie the Pooh and Snow White, including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, all the characters who made Disney successful are represented. This is a special event.

No legend is missing

The short also stars the late Bernie Mattinson, who was with the company for over 70 years and was responsible for the success of several classics including The Jungle Book, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. The film was shot shortly before his death on February 27, 2023.

The feature film should also bring back – at least in the original version – all the voice actors of the characters who appeared on screen: Dwayne Johnson (Maui), Paige O’Hara (Belle), Jeremy Irons (Scar) and many more…

Characters whose actors are no longer with us express themselves with voiceovers taken from archive footage, some of which are brand new (Robin Williams genius!).

A true technical tour de force, Once Upon a Time was perhaps the most beautiful tribute that could be made to Disney films. We play the smile game at every appearance of the character that lit up our childhood and never the name nice movie (a movie that feels good in French) won’t matter as much.

After seeing (and re-watching) this film, there’s no doubt that a large number of fans of the Disney universe will not resist the urge to dive (again) into the studio’s countless classics, because the magic of these films is evident. Eternal.

Once Upon a Studio, a short film created to celebrate the centennial of the Disney Company, is now available on Disney+.
