Encanto: The sequel to this magical animated Disney with iconic songs?

Where we have not finished talking about Bruno. But in what form?

Released in November 2021, Encanto grossed $256.8 million worldwide and drew 3,366,180 viewers in France. Which, incidentally, was no small feat in this Covid period.

The first animated film from the Disney or Pixar stables to be shown exclusively in theaters since the pandemic began (Raya and The Last Dragon were simultaneously available on Disney+), this hilarious musical comedy with a South American accent has built on its enduring success. . And its soundtrack rocked the charts, thanks in large part to the song “Let’s not talk about Bruno”.

This was all that Disney needed to realize his ideas. Back in February 2022, then-CEO Bob Chapek introduced Encanto as the starting point for a new franchise, without further details. The manager has since given way to Bob Iger in the studio, and according to producer Yvette Merino, the ambition clearly remains the same.

“We work closely with our friends in publishing and consumer products to make sure, but there are always different ideas, needs and wants to keep it alive.”he declares Direct.

“I don’t have anything official to announce, but I love the world of Encanto and can’t wait to expand it within the company.”

“We’ve been blown away by the response and how many viewers have identified with Encanto. We’re exploring different ways to keep that world alive. I know there was a tease at D23 that a little bit of Encanto would be coming soon, maybe to one of the parks. And we love it.” …”

When will we talk about Bruno again?

Beyond the new confirmation of Encanto’s importance to Disney, we’re not far off the mark.

Will the franchise return to cinema? Will we get the rights to a prequel about Bruno’s youth on Disney+? A series of short films? A chance to have lunch at Casa Madrigal at Disneyland? A little bit of it all? Answer in the coming months (years?).

In the meantime you can (re)watch Encanto on the M6 on Friday 3rd November at 9.10pm. This will be the first free broadcast of the Oscar-winning film, whose songs were written by the in-demand Lin-Manuel Miranda, and in which every member of the family is given magical powers. Except for Mirabelle…
