The diving athlete achieved an unprecedented feat for Brazil in the Lima 2019 edition

Diving athlete Isaac Souza is ready for the 2023 Pan American Games, which will be held in the city of Santiago, Chile, between October 20 and November 5. At 24 years old, the athlete tries to repeat the good performance of the last edition. In 2019, at the Lima Games, Isaac won a bronze medal, an unprecedented event for Brazil. This was the first time a national couple placed in the top three. On October 22, Isaac Souza will compete together with Diogo Silva in the synchronized pairs jumping. On the 25th the Brazilian athlete will play the semi-finals and the individual final.
– Pan 2019 was incredible and winning that bronze medal was very special for me. Even more so because it was an unprecedented feat, it was Brazil’s first medal in the event. It’s an honor to be able to represent my country once again – said Isaac.
Isaac has already secured qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games thanks to his performance at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, when he placed 11th. He now turns the key and continues to focus on the Pan American Games.
– I know the difficulty of a competition like this with very high level athletes, but now the concentration is total. I worked and prepared a lot to be able to do my best in Santiago. I hope to once again represent Brazil in the best possible way at the Games,” she added.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Isaac Souza grew up in the Mangueira favela. In 2018, at the age of 19, he won the Brazil Olympic Award as the best athlete of the sport in the 2017 season. The Rio native, in addition to being a bronze medalist at the Pan American Games in Lima-2019, was a semi-finalist at the World Championships of the same year.
