The Civil Police is investigating the case of blackmail and disclosure of intimate videos of a young minor on social media

The victim, now 18, suffered blackmail and disclosure of intimate material when she was a teenager; the perpetrator and accomplices will be held responsible

The Santa Maria Child and Adolescent Protection (DPCA) Police Station is investigating a shocking case involving a young woman, currently 18, who had an intimate video of herself shared on social media. The video was recorded when the victim was still a minor.

According to delegate Luisa Souza, the teenager began an online relationship and, during conversations, sent an intimate photo. Subsequently, the man she was talking to started blackmailing her, asking her for money so as not to publish the content on the internet.

“Threatened, the young woman gave in to blackmail and sent other photos and videos as requested by him”, explained the delegate.

The situation worsened when the young woman reactivated her profile on social media and the blackmailer, after seeing a photo of her with her new boyfriend, leaked an intimate video in which the victim appears lying on a bed. The victim herself reported the incident to the Police Headquarters, configuring the crimes of extortion and pedophilia.

In addition to the person responsible for the blackmail, the people who received the video and are sharing it will also be held responsible. The delegate underlined that keeping or helping to disseminate the video constitutes a crime of pedophilia, punishable by up to six years in prison and a fine, pursuant to article 241 of the Law on Children and Adolescents.

The DPCA has opened a police investigation to identify the perpetrator of the crimes and the people involved in the dissemination of the images. This case highlights the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of exposing intimate content online and the need to protect young people from exploitation and abuse.
