The Olympic swimmer is already in Chile to swim the 200 meter butterfly

Olympic swimmer Matheus Gonche is already in Santiago, Chile, for his debut at the Overall Pan American Games. The 24-year-old athlete is part of the Brazilian swimming team, which has 42 athletes. The sporting competitions will begin this Saturday (21st) with the first qualifiers.




Gonche, born in Resende (RJ), makes his debut at the Games on the first day of swimming competitions in the 200 meter butterfly heats. The athlete secured his place thanks to his participation in the Pan American Youth Games, held last year.

“The expectation for the Pan American Games is to have a good competition, a good swimming race. I have prepared for this moment and I will do my best, I count on everyone’s support”, commented Matheus, Olympic athlete at Tokyo 2020 .

Brazilian swimming has a tradition in the Pan American Games. With a total of 62 gold, 59 silver and 33 bronze medals, Brazil trails only the United States in the overall medal table. At Lima 2019, Brazilian swimming won 30 medals and had its best season in history in Pans.

In Santiago, swimming will take place from October 21st to 25th and will be broadcast live on Canal Olímpico do Brasil and CazéTV. The qualifiers will be held at 9:00 and the final at 16:00 (Brasilia time).

Butterfly swimming specialist, Matheus Gonche accumulates great results in the basic swimming categories. He is supported by On Board Sports and Kpaloa. The athlete, born in Resende (RJ), was Brazilian champion (nine times) in the 200 meters butterfly, his main event, and eight times champion (eight times champion) in the 100 meters butterfly in the basic categories of swimming.

She made her first Olympic Games debut at the Japan Olympics on the morning of July 29, at the Tokyo Aquatics Center. At age 22, Gonche swam the heats of the 100 meter butterfly and achieved a time of 53.02 in the fourth heat of the heats, passing the first 50 meters in 24.73.

At the Olympic trials, held in April 2021, Gonche swam the 100-meter butterfly in 51.94, under the 51.96 pace, and won the spot. The swimmer was the only one from the Sao Paulo team confirmed in the individual races.
