42 years ago, a little boy named Mario appeared in a video game, who was then unaware of the worldwide fame that awaited him. In fact, the little plumber of the Nintendo team is known all over the world today, with almost three hundred video games featured in it.

For the filmmakers, the main theme of the film is resilience: “The movie tells us that we should never give up. The only way to lose in Super Mario is to give up – and if you keep going, you’ll get better and eventually beat Bowser. Therefore, it became the main theme of the film“.

Favorite first adaptation

The previous adaptation, Super Mario Bros., was a monumental failure, grossing $20 million on an estimated budget of $48 million. Since then, it has risen to the status of Nanari and remains one of the worst video game adaptations ever made. The result: Nintendo never again made a live-action film adapted from one of its licenses.

Bowser’s musician

In the film, the super villain Bowser is a musician – an unexpected detail that was not included in the first version of the script. He performs the song called PeachWritten by Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, Eric Osmond, and John Spiker, Jack Black’s loyal sidekick and technician doubles as a giant Furious Turtle.
