Fans have been anxiously awaiting the broadcast date of special episodes of Doctor Who to mark the sixtieth anniversary of the iconic British series. Three episodes are titled “Star Beast”, “Wild Blue Out There” and “Laughter” will see the return of David Tennant in the lead role of the programme, thirteen years after his departure.
The peculiarity of Doctor Who, and the secret of its longevity, is that its main character, the Doctor, regularly changes his appearance in order to escape death. Since 1963, when the series first aired on the BBC, no fewer than fourteen performers have lent their features to the Time Lord.
David Tennant was the Tenth Doctor before handing over the role to Matt Smith (Dragon House). For three seasons, the Scottish actress was surrounded by three companions: Rose Tyler (Billie Piper), Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate). The latter will also return during these special episodes.
The first episode of this sixtieth anniversary special will air on November 25th on Disney+, the second will air on December 2nd and finally the third and final episode will be offered on December 9th. Note that the traditional Christmas episode marks the big debut of the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Nkuti Gatwa (Sex Education).
The series is broadcast on the BBC in Great Britain. Originally offered here on France 4, the series will now be offered exclusively on Disney+, following a broadcast deal between the platform and the UK channel. However, we don’t know if previous seasons of the show will be added to the streaming service’s catalog anytime soon…
